Comments Thread For: Khan's Trainer Not Buying 'Mayweather is Old' Talk

Virgil Hunter, trainer for British star Amir Khan (30-3, 19KOs), is not on board with the critics who believe WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0, 26KOs) is "old" and fighting like a "shot" boxer.

Khan is trying to get Mayweather in the ring in the first half of 2015. Even Khan has questioned Mayweather's abilities.

Hunter admits Mayweather, who is closer to 40, is no longer the same fighter who was closer to 20 or even closer to 30 - but he sees Mayweather's current fighting style as being physical adjustments to the changes in his body - similar to the reinvented fighting style of Bernard Hopkins.

I agree, its just so many people buy into this hype and illusion that Floyd is untouchable.

Floyd has no slowed down at all he just has trouble with guys who bring crazy pressure and throw a lot of awkward punches from different angles, watch his fight with Augustus he was getting hit a lot in that fight more than he got hit in the Canelo fight, he just struggles with certain styles.

Im with this. Maidana applied constant pressure for 12 rounds, altho i believe his reflexes changed from fight 1 to 2, its obvious in his legs..however think it had to do with that big right Maidana buzzed Floyd with at the end of the 3rd.

Critics have said floyd was aging after the Dela hoya fight and Cotto..he always seems to come back looking superb when critics say hes "aging"

Floyd looks bad when he is pressured and does not have time to think...He will look great against anyone who actually tries to box him ....but yes he is far from prime

This is why Khan has a chance imo, There just trying to downplay the possibility of a win. If Floyd beats Khan it will be more about how Floyd got old than credit to Khan I've been saying it all along, Floyd hasn't fought a guy like Khan in years at least since Oscar...

He's not in his prime nor is he even fighting in his prime weight class. He's slowed down and his reflexes are slipping but he's still elite.

This is exactly it. And that's pretty much for every fighter. When you overwhelm them it becomes all reaction and sometimes they tend to react the wrong way
