Cotto will beat Canelo

When has Canelo been a ring general? Do you know what that means? Do you know anything about boxing? Against Floyd and Lara, Canelo was NEVER in charge of where he was standing in that fight. That's step 1 is position in the ring and Cotto will always have Canelo in position to get away/set up an attack because Canelo has no concept of it.
And you're using the "He's a WW" excuse? So was Floyd, and he clowned Canelo. Floyd's power kept Canelo from doing anything in there, you don't think Cotto's will? Also, Canelo can't take a WW's punch especially a left hook by a Cotto because he was doing the stanky leg from Cotto's subpar brother. You really don't know **** about boxing your opinion on any fight, not just this one is irrelevant.Comment

If the Martinez that Cotto beat was at 100%, than Cotto wins a good competitive fight.
My guess is Sergio was less than 100 and Canelo wins by stoppage.
Cotto is slightly overrated at this point of his career. Canelo, who was grossly overrated early on, is probably slightly underrated now.
Canelo wins and Mexicans will use it to declare him the pound for pound champ and start goat conversations, while Puerto Ricans will go from saying cottos the best he's ever been under Roach, to he was too old and would have destroyed him in his prime....all in a two fight span. Got to love boxing!Last edited by pvj; 12-27-2014, 09:47 PM.Comment

Cotto's best chance is to dictate the fight behind his jab.. He needs to win the battle of the jabs, force canelo backwards, or step off to setup angles and look to land the big left hook.. I think if cotto is the aggressor, behind the jab, he can beat canelo..
I do think that canelo will land the uppercut, and that will be the key for him.. If canelo can dictate the pace and let his hands go, he should beat cotto..
This fight reminds me of cotto-mosely, but is time cotto is the aging veteran and canelo is the young lion..
I think both guys will have their moments in the fight, but I think canelo will be fresher and will win a close competive decisionComment

No because, Sergio fought a sick Pavlik, a Chavez Jr. who trained for a week and a bunch of slow/hyped up suckers. When he stepped up to the pros, he realized he was not Sugar Ray Robinson. Let's stop acting like Sergio was the GOAT. Cotto rocked his @ss and he was shook for the rest of the night. Simple.Comment

Exactly this.......
Exactly this. Martinez is overrated and always has been. He was talking BIG before the fight and disrespected Cotto's skills and payed for it. He thought because he was bigger, supposedly faster, that he would KO Cotto. One thing I always give Roach credit for; is that his fighters know how to control the ring. Martinez had no idea how a man with shorter arms, shorter in height, was able to hit him when he wanted to. Manny did the same thing to fighters like Cheeto, Hoya, and Algeri. It's like it doesn't even matter to them how long your reach is, or how tall you are. So awesome.Comment
