Comments Thread For: Roach: Cotto vs. Canelo is More Likely For May 2

Trainer Freddie Roach is focused on working the corner of a major fight on May 2nd of next year. Two blockbuster events are being targeted for the lucrative Cinco De Mayo weekend.

Roach trains WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

Top Rank, who promote Pacquiao and work closely with Cotto, are working behind the scenes to finalize significant bouts for both boxers. Top Rank's CEO, Bob Arum, is crossing his fingers on reaching an agreement to match his Filipino star against Floyd Mayweather Jr. On the other end, Arum wants to see Cotto defend his title against Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

roach sure sounds keen on getting cotto in there with triple g. doesn't seem likely to me for some reason even though cotto has always fought everyone. he would definitely get ultimate props for it if he did take that challenge on.

I would be highly surprised if cotto takes on ggg. It would be a hugh fight if he beats canelo.

Of course it is. All Cotto has to do is sign and the fight is done.
