Comments Thread For: Jayson Velez: Nicholas Walters is The Best Featherweight

26-year-old undefeated featherweight contender Jayson Velez (22-0-1) is planning in having a big year in 2015. The Puerto Rico native last fought in November, when he battled IBF featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich to a split draw.

The featherweight division is full of talent and another attractive fight for Velez could be against WBC champion Jhonny Gonzalez.

Are we gonna see Walters discombobulate another ESPN Prospect of the year?

I think Walters is the strongest featherweight. Skill wise Loma is best.

I think it's between him and Loma, but he's certainly his case

By eye test sure, but you can't seriously say Loma is the #1 after beating Gary Russell Jr.

Walters is the #1 guy and I think he should unify against Gonzalez while Loma handles Gradovich.

Then the true #1 can be crowned through Walters/Gonzalez-Lomachenko

The way Velez faded in the second half vs Gradovich, I don't think he should go anywhere near Walters just yet. He's the same age as Lomachenko, that'd be an ok fight. Walters wants Gonzalez and Gradovich has to fight Selby, not sure who else Lomo would be fighting anyways with Cuellar & Mares locked up to Haymon.

As excited as I am to see Walters-Lomachenko, I'm fine with this fight taking it's time because I think both will improve in their abilities aside from raising their profile and make for an amazing fight.

Loma will be entering the danger zone whenever he punches at Walters. Walters has a good 6-7" on Lomachenko.

I've never seen Lomachenko chin tested especially against a man that straight floored Donaire.
