How to boost popularity of lower weight classes?

The lower weight classes are a heavily overlooked gem in boxing. Very competitive, fast paced and lots of knockouts. They are starting to get more attention with the rise of guys like Roman gonzalez but what could be done to boost their popularity?

We hardly see them on the major networks or PPV. Imagine Gonzalez/Estrada II during a huge event. That would raise their profile considerably. It's really difficult to find the lower weight fights on tv. Most of us have to stream.

Also it seems like they're bigger overseas and in Mexico. I think another issue is that there aren't any American stars at the lower weights. Therefore, they're not big in the US.

they should use shorter referees and lower ring ropes so that the fighters don't look as ridiculous

Major network coverage of the elite guys would be a start.

But all in all they'll never be that mainstream.

Get rid of 1/2 the divisions below 130. The babby weights are a joke. Imagine if 160-201 were split up by 3 damn lbs per weight class

            Michael Carbajal was very mainstream.

The lower weight classes just don't get the coverage that they used too.

More exposure, has Roman Gonzalez for example even featured on HBO more than once if at all??

If you haven't got enough fights on the premium TV then there isn't much you can do. Look at how Golovkins popularity has surged since he has fought on HBO.

That's 1 fighter in how many years in terms of Flyweights it's just very rare to see, featherweights have it tough but not as much.

Given the opportunity I think Roman Gonzalez can be a guy who can get the needle moving so to speak.

                    Shrink the US population.
