If anything, social media prevents boxing journalists from callous bias because they'll get called out for it pronto.

While I agree not all fans of the sport are rational with their demands, the bottom line is that we ultimately line the pockets of those involved in the money side of boxing. So when we wanted Kovalev-Stevenson at the beginning of year, it stunk when Business took that away from us; and it stinks even more when a writer opines that the press know better than those who dared to want a compelling match up ASAP.

I mean, WTF is wrong with wanting a unified title holder as a result of a fight in which somebody would most likely GTFKO???

I see that the author conveniently didn't go back 5 fights to Nathan Cleverly and his ranking for %. The fact is that Kovalev is active, stepping up and clearly looking #1 at 175.

Author is trying too hard to be a contrarian and look smart.

Stevenson vs Kovalev was all but made at one point and Stevenson walked away from it. That's a well documented fact. Boxing fans have every right to be upset with him and think he ducked Kovalev.

And bringing up stats to "prove" that Stevenson fought better opp is ridiculous. Stevenson's no hoper opponents were ranked higher in some bs ranking system than Kovalev's? So friggin' what?

Also conveniently left out the minor detail that Stevenson beat a washed up Dawson who looked every bit like he didn't want to be there...

Calling Kovalev the "flavour of the month" is the icing on the cake. Kovalev is "flavour of the month" but Stevenson is the real deal. Sukhotsky was ranked higher than Caparello and that means Stevenson is better and more accomplished than Kovalev, right?

I love the article. To bad it lost on these kids that think being on the band wagon is some how cool.

And too bad some people think ignoring glaring facts, digging up irrelevant and meaningless stats, ditching common sense and calling those who use it bandwagoners somehow makes them look smarter and more insightful.

                  I don't understand this article.
How was the public wrong in wanting a Stevenson/Kovalev fight?

There was really nothing else to build up. HBO had done a good job building up the two to a mega fight. It was all but done when Adonis chose to walk away from the fight. He clearly ducked the fight! Fans have every right to be upset.
Particularly those of us who actually pay for HBO and Showtime for the sole purpose of boxing. It's not 1981 and fights aren't free on ABC. It's 2014 and fans have to pay to watch fights, it's only fair we get the fights we want.

What makes it worse, they think the article is about them, when it is about the authors contemporary. I.E the "anointed king of boxing media". He's talking about a lazy media who hop on bandwagons and try to make a Team Edward/team werewolf environment among the fans.
