It's ironic that Roy is hating on Floyd. Some of the same criticisms that were leveled at Floyd were also leveled at Roy! You would think he would be more empathetic but instead he sounds like an old jealous hater. He also called Bernard dirty and boring. Maybe he's mad that these guys have exceeded him.

To be fair, these two have not liked each other for quite some time now, so this baseless diatribe is not surprising nor should anyone except a Mayweather hater read too much into this.

Floyd fights safety first and always has. Whilst that's his right - it's his health - it makes for boring UDs as the default. He can go on the attack, such as with Gatti, but that's rare.
Roy would ****e things up with daft showboating and flash punches. He has a lengthy list of highlight reel kayos and spectacular moves and against top fighters as well. Floyd's highlights against the best opponents consist of pull counters and little else.
To accuse RJJ of being a hypocrite misses the fact that he wasn't just P4P #1 at his peak, but also one of the most entertaining fighters in the business. Mayweather relies on being hated to make him a big draw, because he's not a big enough draw without that animosity.
But to each his own. I enjoy both Roy and Floyd but I prefer Mayweather because of how he dissects any opponent. I watch him for his greatness not because hes hated.Last edited by elishua F; 12-22-2014, 06:08 PM.

I remember a week after Tarver knocked Jones out, Floyd replaced him as #1 on the p4p list and has been ever since. I commend Jones for keeping that hate bottled up for 10 years lol!
That being said everything he said is all true.

Floyds reflexes are nowhere near as sharp as they were yet hes still top dog because hes a scientist. Science is not rushed, its a process. For you to say all Floyd does is pull counters and little else shows how blind you are to the art of boxing. You make it sound so simple yet there has never been a fighter like Floyd in history. The greatest defense ever, the most accurate puncher ever, the most complete pure boxer ever.

Floyd is a joy to watch for the purists, for people with a very active interest in the sport. For the casuals, he isn't. The main reason people tune in is in hope that he loses, literally - which is a testament to his business acumen and marketing talent.
Roy is not complaining that Mayweather is a bad boxer. I'm sure Roy really appreciates his finesse. However, boxing is the entertainment business and Floyd has somehow avoided the biggest match up in history for half a decade. He's wide open to criticism at this point, but neither myself nor Roy are accusing Mayweather of being a bad fighter or hating on him for his success. He just fails to entertain. The only entertaining thing about the Maidana fights was literally that Maidana roughed him up a bit - perhaps that he figured how to nullify Floyd's infamous pull counter (a 1-2, how basic eh), but the fights themselves were lacking drama and generally uneventful. Hell, the only things I remember are Floyd being wobbled at the end of a round and the bite. Beyond that, that's 24 rounds of forgetful fighting.
Totally agree with you regarding Roy's style and why he paid for it as he aged etc.
