American heavyweight boxer Chauncy Welliver's fired a warning message at Sonny Bill Williams (6-0, 3KOs) and his camp ahead of their bout at the end of January.

Welliver has 70 fights to his name with 55 wins, and gets the feeling there's not a lot of respect coming out of Williams' team.

The 31-year-old, who lives in Auckland, is determined to trim down for the bout.

Even though he is way too fat, I actually like Chauncey. The guy has some boxing ability, and it will be interesting to see if he does what he says vs Williams. Most fans hate him because of his weight, but in his case it just gives him more padding to absorb punches... helps him be more durable and go rounds. And he's actually made a fairly decent living from it. It's a strange approach, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it for a fighter, but it seems to work for him.

once he lost to Sherman Williams & the Japanese guy he parted ways with Joe hipp. hipp had him down in the 240s. He was able to go 10 or 12 rounds but at near 300lbs he doesn't give himself much of a chance to beat anybody. he does have some skill but it is wasted with his lack of discipline. he promotes fights in NZLD, china & south America so he has his hand in the sport in more ways then one. if he drops 40lbs I think he could win. Williams looked rough against a shot frans botha... i'd have a few beers & burgers with ruiz, arreola & welliver. the only thing welliver is firing up is the BBQ...
