SHELTON, Wash. - World-ranked featherweight Gary Russell Jr. (25-1, 14 KOs), of Capitol Heights, Md., pitched a near-shutout against Christopher Martin (28-5-3, 9 KOs) of Chula Vista, Calif., winning a lopsided 10-round decision.

Russell, in his first fight since his only defeat via 12-round majority decision to two-time Olympic Games Gold Medalist Vasyl Lomachenko last June 21 on SHOWTIME, won by the scores of 100-90 twice and 99-91.

The deluded fool shall never be humbled or learn!

    Another Haymon Showtime hypejob!

No doubt we shall see the overhyped African American fighter get many unwarranted paydays!

The African American fighter very overrated in this day and age!

They should make Marvin Sonsona vs Gary Russell Jr.

But I don't know if its possible since Sonsona is apparently gonna be apart of the WBC eliminators.

I hate hearing this from fighters. It's usually just hollow words and we will get crap match ups from these guys.

Russell fought a moving "punching" bag last night & even thou he was still swinging after the second half of the fight, there was nothing behind those punches. He doesn't have a lot of pop in his punch to begin with..Gotta see him agsinst someone that actually fights back, especially in the last few rounds.

I don't really see Russell getting too far in the featherweight division. I can't see him beating ANY top dudes. His speed is amazing, but that alone wont be enough to win against the top dogs like Walters, loma, mares, gradovich, and gonzalez, cuz those dudes WILL hit him back. He lacks power but he's very flashy and talented none the less.

Looked exactly the same as he always has and you saw what happened when he stepped up granted not many guys are on Vasyl level , most of the best are with TR so expect more matches like this.

                    LSC/Russell

                    Mares/Cuellar

Would actually be a great bill and winners face each other but there's probably a better chance Russell beats Loma even 1 time.
