Why? If Mayweather-Pacquiao is announced May 1st for May 2nd, Alvarez-Cotto will move.

Not if it's going head to head with a Mayweather fight. Alvarez and Mayweather are big headed neither will want to move but Cotto will see sense.

I thought it was already made clear that the distributors(cable/satellite providers) would never agree to do a head-to-head PPV.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, I don't think Floyd fights in the first half of 2015. He won't be able to find a worthy opponent that can knock off Cotto-Canelo card from it's supposed May 2nd date and instead of moving the date he'll just take a year off.
