Comments Thread For: Khan: Mayweather is Ideal Now, Brook Can Come Later

Amir Khan defeated Devon Alexander by unanimous points decision to take the WBC Silver welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Khan's performance was reflected in a comfortable win, with the fight scored 119-109, 118-110, 120-108 - the 30th win of his professional career.

Having taken care of business, Khan immediately signalled that he wanted to use the win to earn a shot at Floyd Mayweather.

        Quite the opposite.

Unless he's pulling a Tim Bradley "If I lose to Brook, I lose out on the Mayweather-Pacquiao sweepstakes".

If Khan admits he is afraid of fighting Brook, Thurman, Guerrero, or Broner first because he may lose, it's going to look like a huge duck but at least we'll know where he stands. Starting out at WW dominating Collazo and Alexander is good, but with just one more win over a top 10 WW guy he'll impress a million more fans. Diaz, Molina and Collazo were not T10 contenders. Basically Alexander is his first top 10 win since Zab Judah in 2011. He needs to understand that he has the tools to beat Brook, and if he does he becomes IBF WW champ and earns much more respect. He'd also make a Mayweather fight much more interesting and more fans will actually believe he can win. Hopefully Mayweather fights Pacquiao, and Khan accepts Brook's challenge, they both win and meet in September.

That fight is too big. It would happen in England, somewhere big like Froch-Groves II in Wembley, it would also historic because it would be only the second boxing fight that stadium. It'll also have it's own undercard. If that fight happens, I honestly would love to go to England for the first time ever to attend that fight.

I personally rather see khan vs brook than khan vs mayweather... Think it would be a more exciting fight. If Khan wins it will put a valid stamp on his record for a mayweather bout. I don't think Khan will win though Brook is just too much

Do you remember the timeline of that whole fiasco? It wasn't like Bradley was offered Khan and Pac at the same time. It was after a solid year of ducking (Feb,2011-2012) that the Pac fight was signed. This however, is different where if Khan has the option between Mayweather or Brook "at the same time", he's bound to pick Mayweather. It's more like Thurman calling out Maidana after his Broner win, yet he got Mayweather and chose to go that route.
