While pundits question the world title legitimacy of the April 8 "super showdown" between Zab "Super" Judah (34-3, 25 KOs) and the pound-for-pound king "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather (35-0, 24 KOs), Judah's IBF welterweight title will be on the line on April 8 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Judah of Brownsville, Brooklyn, the former undisputed welterweight champion lost his WBC strap when he was surprisingly outpointed by the savvy veteran of Santa Fe, Argentina, Carlos Baldomir. Judah was forced to vacate the WBA belt but allowed to keep the IBF strap under the technicality that Baldomir failed to pay the sanctioning fee.
"I am at the bottom of the barrel and I know how to come out," said Judah. "This is the same boat as Cory Spinks. The second time around I had to fight him in his hometown to redeem myself." The two-time world champion went on the record saying, "I am fighting Floyd in Vegas at the Thomas and Mack Center, and I am going to leave him on the ground in the Thomas and Mack."
Most people would have lost confidence in themselves or at least in their abilities if they had started off the year the same way Zab did, but Zab is no mere mortal, he is truly "super" as his nickname indicates. Judah revealed a bombshell to all of us here at *********.com when he stated, "I am letting the media know that this will probably be the easiest fight I have ever fought." When asked to elaborate, Judah gravely said, "I am just going to use my speed and dominate." When reminded of Mayweather's brilliance, Judah intervened and in his best Teddy Atlas breakdown, the Brooklyn southpaw calmly said, "You know that what you saw on January 7th wasn't me."
"Floyd is my motivation," he continued. "I am starting out fast. He is going to stand and trade with me and that will be the end of him."
With less than four weeks to go, Zab will get another opportunity to prove to the world that he can be the fighter people believe he can be. On April 8th, we'll see if Zab Judah can pull a page out of Mariano Rivera's book (New York Yankees closer) and close the show. In an effort to convince all of the skeptics wrong Judah reiterated, "If I hurt you, you are out of there!"
