    Pro's with bad amateur careers?

I'm simply wondering if you guys know of any great professional boxers that had horrible amateur careers with somewhere around half of their fights as losses if not more.

Also why do you think some fighters are bad as amateurs and then shine as professionals? For example, can you have a style that is fit better for pro boxing then amateur? Leave your ideas.

Wow that's alot, and do you know how he lost so many amateur bouts but still was good as a pro? I'm wondering because i want to know what the difference is, can you be a bad amateur but a good pro and if so, how?

How well you do in the amateurs is not necessarily a reflection of how you'd do in pros. Audley Harrison was an Olympic Gold Medalist and look at him. Then you have guys like Sergio Martinez with average amateur careers, but then he became such a big name and accomplished plenty. Wilfredo Vasquez Jr had ZERO amateur fights. Those instances are exceptions.

At the end it is just better to have an extensive amateur background, because the success ratio for deep amateur backgrounds based on my observation is great compared to the failure.

Better amateurs mostly are better pros especially when you look at Cuban fighters. When you don't have much amateur exp, you'll be learning on the job, which is tougher against grown men who hit like pros in sparring. You will have to tough it out in situations and take a lot of unnecessary damage in the process, but if you had that amateur pedigree, it would've equipped you with the skill set to avoid that damage.

Thank you for taking your time to answer, i would still like to see more examples of fighters who had bad amateur careers and later became well known pro's, also if someone has any idea as to how you can be a good pro with a amateur background with lots of losses that would be great.

Chavez Jr had a very limited amateur career.

Wilder also had very limited amateur career even though he still won bronze at the games.

Most fighters we know don't have the best amateur careers. My uncle was a pro fighter and had pretty crappy amateur career, but he went 19 and 3. Most boxers who are "late starters" don't flourish in the amateurs. But, usually the guys who figured out the sport tend to do great in the pros. Even the guys who get the rep of not having "skills" had great amateur careers (maidana, rios, etc)

So, no one comes to mind. But the "late starter" thing is important consider

Thank you guys for the responses but i think you kind of misunderstood me, the question wasn't about pro's with SHORT amateur careers but of pro's with BAD amateur careers, for example fighters with a large amount of losses or that didn't compete in any big tournaments (european, world championships, olympics etc.)
