  • What does being unbeaten really mean? The glory days lost but never forgotten!

When fans who see's a fighter who is undefeated either two things come to mind depending on who is actually seeing this. To a casual fan, they might say to themselves "Wow, this guy hasn't been beaten before. He must be amazing." If it's a hardcore fan they might say "Look at this prospect. The match maker did a great job of giving him soft touches." Or "He's ducking this fighter" or "He's such a cherry picker". Who's views are right? Well, it's completely subjective. Both views are correct to a certain degree. Of course prospects are protected. They aren't going to feed them world class fighters right away. They have to have talent to be undefeated even if the competition is minimal when it comes to prospects. What about established fighters who are undefeated? Are they cherry picking? Unfortunately the way boxing it is today, yes they are. Promoters bickering, network wars, fishy management, money seeking fights, etc. It all contributes to the cherry picking. Who's to blame? Everyone including the fighters themselves. This is why throwback fighters are given high praise. There wasn't a lot of bull**** politics back then. They fought whoever. They didn't care about who is the "A" side, who comes out first, the music playing in the ring entrance. Non of that mattered to them. What mattered to them was the glory of beating the best out there. It's sad to see where boxing is today with politics but I'm still hopeful things will change and boxing will prosper once again.

It means a lot if you are fighting top fighters, champions and have been doing it for almost 20 years and have gone through multiple divisions...being undefeated has to mean something as when a fighter loses on here he is trashed(except certain fighters) called hype jobs, say they were exposed and or overrated...so you tell me which is it?

It doesn't mean a damn thing if you're not fighting the best.

Yup it's sad what boxing has become. Floyd is the poster child for this issue. Is he a great talent? Yes. But his undefeated record doesn't carry much weight when you look at the fighters he avoided who would have given him trouble. Pacquiao, Margarito, Williams, etc. I love the sport but it's sad to see what it's become. Now all these young fighters wanna follow suit and avoid fighting the real threats in their division. I hope it will change one day but it won't happen soon.

It just means you have executed your game plan properly against the opposition you have faced thus far. I believe the resume would tell the true story and depending on the names under said undefeated fighter, one could truly attempt to gauge his greatness or lack thereof.

Undefeated prospect - Not much thought over it since they are "prospects". The future of the sport whom should be disposing of their weaker opposition in a relatively easy manner. Although it is not expected for a prospect to be undefeated, it is quite normal for a prospect to hold an unblemished record up until he fights an ex contender or disputes a world title.

Undefeated Champion - It is a difficult situation. An undefeated champion only has two slots he could fall under… either an incredibly talented individual or a champion who hasn't faced the opposition he should be facing, thus fighting lesser opponents and padding up his record.

Who cares, people are so obsess with it at the moment it's unbelievable. They actually believe if you unbeaten it means you haven't been tested or fought the best... Okay whatever makes you sleep at night.
