Comments Thread For: Team Alvarado: Mike Looks Very Strong, He Wanted Rios

Top Rank President Todd duBoef recently announced that an agreement had been reached for Brandon Rios (32-2-1, 23KOs) and Mike Alvarado (34-3, 23KOs) to meet for a third time on January 24th in an HBO main event.

The fighters split their first two fights with the first encounter taking place close to Rios residence in Southern California while the second meeting took place in neutral territory in Las Vegas. The third installment will take place in Alvarado's backyard at the First Bank Center in Broomfield, Colo. which is a suburb of Denver.

i think Bam Bam takes this one, I think Alvarado's wars and courageous efforts in the ring might have taken a toll on him, not necessarily shot but somewhere along those lines, his movement doesn't flow the same way it used to and his reaction to punches is changing, that fight vs Provodnikov might have taken something out of him.........hopefully i'm wrong and this 3rd fight is another great fight

I guess it is possible to have a necessary trilogy that isn't really that necessary.

This is one of those fights that the casual fan will LOVE. The type of fight that brings fans to the sport or brings in extra viewers to the next telecast.....

With that said, I have NO interest in it. I don't think I'll be able to watch this fight or even the highlights. Knowing both of their histories..... It's one of those fights where if I watch I will have to close my eyes at certain points as if I'm 9 years old and watching a horror film. This fight is just unnecessary and gruesome to think about considering their past fights together and individually/and their styles.

Props to both guys for accepting another war.... these two ARE warriors indeed and have balls of steel. I'm also glad they're probably getting paid good for this because they deserve it. But I will not be tuning in.

Alvarado's going to look like a new and improved fighter at 147. I can not wait for this. Making 140 has been killing him for years.

            WAR ALVARADO!

i dont see how its not both fights were candidates for fight of the year both winning one i think the fight makes perfect sense and i catch myself talking smack about arums choices all the time. to bring it full circle tho i think these fights obviously made both fighters out to be more then they really were but in reality that was arum doing his job. Lets be real alvarado and rios both are not very good its just reality but after those 2 fights their stock rose a ton one fighting manny the other fighting marquez. Plus by the way provo team talks they wont fight at 147 so it will be provo against one or the other drained to hell and back anyway

I kind of lost interest in both these guys. Both have clearly hit their ceiling, the intrigue is just not there any more.

This fight gonna make Alvardo realize he aint no real warrior and go back to wrestling hoodlums in the streets of denver and get sliced up again just like the first fight did it to him, repeat time baby!
