Comments Thread For: Lemieux-Rosado: Just a Fight, and That’s Enough

By Cliff Rold - The names on the marquee feel more like an ESPN2 Friday Night Fights main event. That’s not an insult. Lots of good fights and fighters have made hay on Friday Night Fights. It just doesn’t feel like an HBO headliner.

It will be on Saturday (10 PM EST/PST). If Middleweights David Lemieux (32-2, 20 KO) and Gabriel Rosado (21-8, 13 KO) were dancing in Lemieux’s usual stomping ground in Montreal, the rabid crowd might make it feel different. The Brooklyn crowd at Barclay’s might turn the noise up and provide a reasonable facsimile.

There are no titles on the line.

Neither headliner has ever really picked up a win to separate from the pack.

    It’s just a fight.

    There’s nothing wrong with that.

2014 has been an up and down year in terms of its elite performers. Wladimir Klitschko and Manny Pacquiao both turned in significant career wins over Kubrat Pulev and Timothy Bradley respectively. The other half of their years was forgettable. Adonis Stevenson followed a career making 2013 with business decisions that left him basically boxed out of significant fights in his division by the end of 2014. Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather didn’t happen. [Click Here To Read More]

This is a man's fight. This is one of those fights you feel would fit right along in the 40s era, this is the fight game.

This is a very compelling match-up: Rosado's toughness/experience vs. Lemieux's power. Will Rosado be able to withstand Lemieux's power in the first half? How will his face hold up? Will Lemieux have the stamina down the stretch to close strong? Will Rosado be able to make the most of his slight height/reach advantage?

This could be a very bad night for Lemieux . Theres been many cases where a foreign boxer comes out of his comfort zone, in this case Montreal, to make a statement in the US, and either gets robbed by judging or legitimately beat down . In this case, I'm going with the later, and Rosado puts a good pounding on Lemieux for a mid rounds stoppage.
