what is he waiting for?? canelo will fight anyone at the weight, he said that a couple of years ago(ill fight the devil)...
he was called by lara and then nothing but crickets, then ward calls him and he is not ready...
if the mw div suçks then move up or down for bigger challenges... dude is 32 and still waiting for the big names to come at his division to knock on his door...
Canelo has already been fighting in the mw division in case you didnt realize.

So why would GGG have to move a weight division to fight someone that is already fighting there or has canelo made a new weight division at 155?

      • GGG vs Canelo. I am down. Make it happen. GGG paints Canelos face the color of his hair.

Irrespective of what SA says, Oscar will be in no rush to put Canelo in with Golovkin.
DLH didn't want him in there with Trout either... but he insisted... and soundly beat him. Obviously it would be a huge mountain to fight GGG though.

          • I'm a little curious about the weight issue here in terms of sanctioning. If the WBC has sanctioned that the fight is a MW mando then surely if GGG were to hold out for 160lbs that would, in fact, be his perogative.

If Cotto / Canelo refused to defend at the full MW limit then they would surely forfeit the belt.

Now of course, that isn't how anyone will be expecting it to play out - the financial incentives for GGG to compromise somewhat on the weights are likely to be very considerable, and whilst Canelo typically comes to the ring a little heavier than GGG his youth and familiarity with draining / rehydrating probably makes a lower catchweight more to his favour.

The point is though, that if GGGs team feel that any CW is low enough to significantly disadvantage Gennady, they are in a position of some strength as mandatory challengers to negotiate a higher weight. Even if means taking a smaller cut, the long term benefits of ensuring the win are likely to outweigh anyone short term financial losses.

The only thing they can't afford to do, IMO, is risk negotiating their way out of the fight and having to fight for a vacant title. Not because Cotto or Canelo are legitimate MW champs or necessarily much better than the competition GGG has been fighting, but because they both have the kind of name recognition that Golovkin needs to progress his career.

Like he soundly beat Lara. I think a lot of un bias fans will disagree with you

He's got about 2 prime years left so we'll see what he does with it. Lol, at least Salka and Algieri have Garcia and Pac on there resume, lol. GGG needs to step it up.
Remind me, how old was Hopkins when he scored hos first name win, over a welter? How about Martinez? How about Froch? See, GGG will have a hard time getting good fights if a bigger card carrying bada$$ like Froch wants nothing to do with him.

Lara is yet another one of those that wants GGG, but not next. Easy to call out when hiding behind Showtime/Haymon's protective curtain. Understandable, since he'd have no chance of winning or even making it the distance

HBO would have to speak to Lara's adviser Al Haymon, but we are very happy fighting on Showtime. They have given him the opportunities to showcase his talents and they will continue to do so.

                    • This doesn't mean anything, that Canelo said this. Remember, Mexican fighters have to say this to the press. They are notorious for giving excuses for ducking fighters, because the Mexican pride, that is mostly an illusion, means every single Mexican fighter claims they will fight anyone.

JMM has done this many times, come up with lame excuses pretending he does not duck fighters. The press is on these guys asses in Mexico, so they are used to false macho talk.

Like I said, its a myth they just tell themselves. Just like they claim they never quit, yet they do it all the time.
