  • Fights were rematch was most necessary/deserved but never given?

Some fights where a rematch was the only way to really determine who is the better man, but for whatever reason, never came to fruition?

Like where fights ended early on a freak cut, or injury. Or clear robberies on the scorecards. Or the fight was literally just a dead even draw.

And where one boxer refused to gve the rematch, no matter how much it was deserved. Or where it just never came off for other reasons.

Damn, how could I forget Lennox-Vitali? That's probably the epitome of a rematch being necessary. Didn't Lennox promsie a rematch, but then retired? Or am I forgetting somethng in how that played out? Vital was up 4 rounds to 2, but the fight was stopped (and probably justifiably) due to bad cuts on Vitali's eye.

Crowd booed the decision, cheered Vitali, and everybody was dying for a rematch, as finally Lewis had a competitive challenger. Lewis promises rematch, but then subsequently retires?

And yeah, Chavez/Whitaker is probably the worst decision in the history of boxing (in recent fistic eras), maybe matched by Holyfield/Lewis (but Lewis was granted a rematch). I remember Chavez deserving a few rounds, and even those were close.

Douglas-Tyson I could see, just because of how dominant Tyson was, and how shocking the upset was. Not to mention the controversy over the whole "13 count" that Douglas supposedy received (I've never really looked and counted, so I can't say for sure if that's accurate).

You never know what's true and what isn't but according to Emmanuel Steward, Lewis and Vitali are both good sports and had a gentleman's agreement for a rematch almost immediately, but Lennox's wife threatened to leave him if he signed the contract.

I'm not sure why Chavez-Whitaker never rematched. The rumor there is that Whitaker simply didn't think he could improve on a fight he clearly won and didn't want to get robbed again.

Ahhh yes - I do remember hearnig somethng about Lewis's wife, and mother being heavily opposed to it.

I guess it's just one of those fights that we'll have to accept, but continue to wonder who is actually the better fighter head to head.

Yeah - it sort of would be like Bradley/Pac I (forgot to mention that as one of the worst decisions). Pac didn't even need to rematch BRadley, despite officially losing, because he already so dominantly won the fght... And the rematch was actually closer than the first fight.

Arthur Abraham vs Andre Dirrell I don't know if it was really necessary or deserved but I believe Dirrell faked it. would be nice to see the fight play out to a true finish
