    Comments Thread For: Brian Viloria Continues Title March Against Vazquez

    Former two division world champion Brian Viloria will fight Mexico’s Armando “Chiquita” Vazquez as he continues his bid for another world title shot following the loss of his WBO/WBA flyweight titles to tough Juan Francisco Estrada by a split decision on April 6, 2012 in Macau.

    It will be the 34 year old Viloria’s third comeback fight after the Estrada loss and will take place at the Civic Auditorium in Glendale, California on December 6.

    Another tune up? I'm a huge "Hawaiian Punch" fan but this is getting absurd. Atleast fight someone in the top 15 from the weight class Oh and Brian lost his belts in 2013, not 2012. Also, Salguero was the same fighter that lost to Segura by KO prior to the Segura vs Estrada clash(interesting side not )

    My major issue with this whole situation is the fact that Viloria is headed towards a title shot by fighting lesser opponents on his "comeback streak". This is coming from the same fighter whom when asked if he would watch the Estrada vs Mepranum fight he declined the idea, reason? Because he claimed he wasn't in favor of other countries importing weak opposition just to make their homegrown fighters look good. Also, the money that these journeymen are getting paid was too low and he wasn't in accordance with such situation, thus he claimed he would skip watching the fight. Fast forward a few months and he is on his 3rd cab driver and in fast route to a showdown for a world title

    edit: Excerpts from the interview conducted on May of this year.

    Since wresting the WBO/WBA crowns from Viloria via a split decision in April last year, Estrada has turned back two Filipino challengers Milan Melindo and Richie Mepranum. Viloria said he didn***8217;t bother to watch Estrada***8217;s ninth round stoppage of Mepranum.

    ***8220;I***8217;m not thinking retirement at the moment,***8221; said Viloria. ***8220;I***8217;m not even putting a timetable on how many more years I***8217;ll fight because that would only put pressure on me. I***8217;m feeling good and I think I can go on for several more years. Look at Bernard Hopkins and even Juan Manuel Marquez, they***8217;re in their 40s and they***8217;re still fighting. I***8217;ve fought the best in the lightflyweight and flyweight divisions and if I fight inferior fighters, it would be a step down so I***8217;d want to keep fighting the best out there.***8221;

    On another subject, Viloria said he has heard disturbing news of Filipino fighters getting short-changed in Mexican mismatches. ***8220;Who***8217;s bring Filipino fighters to Mexico?***8221; he wondered. ***8220;They***8217;re overmatched, they have virtually no chance of winning and there is talk that they get paid only $5,000 when their actual purse is $20,000 so somebody***8217;s making a lot of money at their expense.***8221;
