Comments Thread For: Korobov Assesses Andy Lee, Targets Golovkin Clash

WBO #1 rated middleweight and also WBO mandatory challenger Matvey Korobov (24-0, 14 KOs) of Orutukan, Russia, but presently fighting out of Saint Petersburg, Florida, expressed his interest in a fight with WBA/IBO king Gennady Golovkin in future, and said that there is backing in place from American television for such a bout to be made.

Korobov, 31, faces "Irish" Andy Lee (33-2, 23 KOs), one year his junior, in a bid for the vacant WBO middleweight title on Dec. 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Korobov's making almost as much for this fight as he would had he fought Quillin for the Roc Nation money? I know the split is different cause it's for a vacant title, but wow. It's still less than what Haymon paid Quillin to sit on his *ss and look weak though.

If Korobov looks good against Lee, I'll consider him the second best MW next to Golovkin. I'd still like to see that fight marinate more first. I know Golovkin has Murray in Feb. and it looks like he might be fighting Hopkins in May. Hopefully Golovkin then fights Carl Froch after that, in the meantime Korobov could pick up a few more fights against guys like Geale and Saunders (if he beats Eubanks...)

Honestly as you can tell, this fight leads to GGG and Quillin wants no part of GGG - Korobov is a world class fighter, and he will definitely give GGG looks he has not yet seen in the ring. He will definitely give him a far tougher fight than Martin Murray - smdh...

IMO, it'll be next up after Murray, unless Bob wants to use him to keep GGG at bay
