Comments Thread For: Eubank vs. Saunders Clash: Massive Predictions Poll

Ahead of Saturday’s unmissable ‘Bad Blood’ grudge fight between Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr, boxing writer Glynn Evans canvassed 25 of boxing’s ace faces to find out who they were backing.

Don Charles (London coach): I go with Billy Joe Saunders on points. Eubank Jr is very good – in fact I can’t detect any weaknesses – but I just feel it’s a fight too soon for him.

It’s about levels. Billy Joe has a champion’s mentality and also has a very experienced, very able trainer (Jimmy Tibbs) to steer him from the corner and I think that could be vital.

Question marks over Saunders' stamina come from his last fight against Blandamura. But as you said, he's gone 12 rounds a few times, so he'll know how to pace himself.

My take on it is that Eubank Jr is a very good offensive fighter. That's where all this hype is coming from, seeing him throwing in big combinations, uppercuts from half-way across the ring etc. But he does not have that defensive capability, he is easy to hit and that's been shown against his current level of opposition - which is terrible.

Blackwell's comments are interesting. In Eubank Jr's fight against Warren, Warren was bullying him around the ring and landing some good shots. Eubank does not fight for every minute each round, he will look to steal rounds against Saunders. Saunders needs to keep his jab in Jr's face and disrupt any rhythm he's trying to build up.

Interesting that people call Jr the arrogant one who's used his mouth to get this fight.

Eh? When exactly? Billy joe is the one who's been talking and calling him every name in the book. Lets not rewrite history.

Saunders should be the favourite, as Jr is an unknown quantity with raw skills.

If BJS uses his skills and experience he could get at shut out UD.

Eubank fights like his father did - 1 minute of each round, the rest of the time is posturing etc.

I don't believe that BJS conditioning is an issue for this fight (though it has been in the past) he has spent 6 weeks in Spain and looks in the best shape ever.

There is a lot of experience in BJS team, whereas the Eubanks are a pretty odd bunch - basically Snr, Jnr and their trainer.

Really looking forward to this fight.

Almost everyone picking BJS. I suppose it's not surprising as he's the proven article but I just got a feeling that Eubank could be the real deal.

It'll be interesting to see if Eubank's power is enough to hurt BJS early. Half the intrigue in this fight is to see where Eubank is really at.

Obviously its a moot point in this fight because Eubank Jr hasnt been past 8, but Saunders has struggled in the last third of the fight a few times.

Against Blandamura, Ryder and Blackwell he struggled in the late rounds.

Eubank so far has shown terrible workrate though so i doubt he will be able to capitalize.

BJS should win, unless CEjr has been improving lots behind the scenes
