Pacquiao used Algieri as practice for...

I feel like Pacquiao used Algieri as a test dummy to see how well he will match up against Mayweather. Both are taller than Pacquiao, great runners, and have the same reach (72 inch) advantage. Pacquiao even trained months before training camp officially started against Algieri.

Straight after the fight, for the first time we see Manny straight up calls out Mayweather to fight him...

Algieri was a measuring tool for Mayweather

There is no fighter in the welterweight division that is an adequate sparring partner/ practice dummy in preparation for fighting Mayweather.

Rios was the measuring tool. He had 2 arms and 2 legs like Floyd.

Floyd doesn't run, at least not like Algieri does, totally different types of fighters. Floyd sits in the pocket, and uses occasional lateral movement. He's also OK with fighting off the ropes in spots

Algieri is an out-boxer, who prefers to stick and move throughout an entire fight
