Comments Thread For: Lomachenko : If Nicholas Walters is Ready, I'm Ready!

WBO champion Vasyl Lomachenko (3-1, 1KO) is ready to fight WBA featherweight champion Nicholas Walters (25-0, 21KOs) as soon as possible. A few days ago, Walters was quoted in BoxingScene article that he had "nothing to gain" in beating a fighter like Lomachenko and preferred to face WBC champion Jhonny Gonzalez instead.

"There’s nothing for me to gain out of beating a guy with three fights. He has more to gain from fighting me than I have to gain from fighting him. I’m the guy that knocked Nonito out and that’s never happened before and I did it," Walters said.

Lomachenko isn't ready for Walters yet in my opinion. Walters isn't Salido or Russel, he is about 2 step above of those two.

        i'm not so sure ....
loma is definatly world class and this is a fight that would make a great main support to a floyd v manny or cotto v canelo ...
i think if bob keeps putting loma in there with this sort of opposition he will shorten loma's career .........

Loma is old school, cut from a different cloth. Walters is new school, where the risk has to equal the reward.

I would like to see this match up, but I think Arum is going to let this fight marinate for a little bit. Which l don't have a problem with as long as they fight good opponents in the meantime. Like I would like to see Loma vs Salido & maybe Walter's vs Gonzalez at 126, are still some solid match ups. I think Salido might be a little on the heavy side now. who knows, he might be moving up to 130 or 135.

So what's the story on the wrist? Was it a serious injury or what?

I'm fine with Walters fighting Gonzales, Gradovich, and a mando before Lomo. Let their fight build into a super fight. I'm assuming Lomo's wrist will keep him out til early spring? I doubt Donaire or Mares agree to fight Lomochenko and I'd hold off fighting Rigo for another year, but he should take a couple more fights against guys like Cuellar, Vazquez, Dib, Vetyeka, Sonsona, or Selby.

Next year's superfight hopefully. If they could each pick up a significant win in the meantime it'd only make it bigger.

Loma has balls. He could take his time if he wanted but he doesn't seem to give a fuck about the risk.
