Comments Thread For: Bellew Says Rivalry is Over, Cleverly Wants Trilogy

Tony Bellew gained sweet revenge over Nathan Cleverly with a split decision win at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

The bitter rivals looked neck and neck over the first eight rounds, but Bellew crucially found the extra gears and pinned Cleverly against the ropes in the final rounds, and although the Welshman was able to withstand the onslaught bravely, Bellew took over the fight and appeared to have done enough to win the fight.

    A trilogy?

The first two were horrendous 'fights', what have we done to deserve a third serving of that?

Agree. Now if Cleverly actually tried to win the fight yesterday than maybe but he didn't.

      Bellew is right. It's over.

I honestly have no idea what Cleverly was doing. I was hoping to see the punch stats but they never showed them, he must have thrown around 20 power punches through the first 10 rounds. It was horrendous.

May I just say...No ****ing thank you. Both of these C level fighters need to crawl back under the rocks they came from. No one cares that you dont like each other, just give it a rest and go back to being undercard fighters please

I think he threw it. Despite Bellew saying it was "over" he was always very receptive to the third fight. Both guys and Hearn were immediately talking trilogy in a specific venue.

It's either that or Cleverly was in the worst shape a pro boxer can be in. Take your pick.

It should never been PPV althought the undercard made up for it, but a trilogy.... No chance. Snorefest of a fight.

I thought it was quite possibly the most over-hyped rematch of all time.
It was sloppy and lackluster all around. Cleverly did su****iously little work throughout, especially during the last 4 or 5 rounds. Both had a very low land % but at least Bellew acted as if he wanted to fight. He clearly deserved the win more than Cleverly.
Terror O'Connor, who scored the fight a draw, must have been well in the bag by the time the fight got underway. A trilogy would be even more pointless than the rematch.
