Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua-Kevin Johnson on Deck For Jan. 30

Exciting heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua produced another impressive display to defeat Michael Sprott inside 90 seconds at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

The Olympic gold medal winner from London 2012 was looking for his 10th stoppage win from as many fights as a pro and he duly made short work of the 39-year-old veteran.

Sprott tried to start on the front foot but he was in big trouble as soon as the 25-year-old Joshua connected with a straight right.

    Interesting opponent for Joshua.

Johnson is the kind of durable boxer Deontay Wilder's management avoided when he had over 20 fights, now Joshua is facing him in just his 11th fight.

This is a good test to see if Joshua is an intelligent fighter and not just a great athlete.

If Joshua is as talented as people are saying, even a defensive guy like Johnson could get knocked down or knocked out.

Let me read the scores now: 100-90 × 3 and the winner.....Anthony Joshua. Lol, Johnson will throw 3 jabs per round and produce typical underwhelming performance.

Yeah, this fight doesn't do much for AJ, IMO, save perhaps getting a few more rounds in. Hopefully Hearn will put him in with Sherman Williams in 2015.

This is a good opponent for Joshua for his 11th pro fight. Kev Johnson is a durable fighter with decent skill (when he want to use it) who has never been stopped. He's been in with big punchers (Vitali, Fury, Chisora) and has always found a way to survive.

Joshua is a very young powerful and determined fighter and I think he will give Johnson is first KO loss

Either Tank or Kingpin will be decent tests, (though I prefer Johnson as the younger guy) but fighting both would be better.

If Joshua can get through 2015 with two solid wins over this kinda journeyman / gatekeeper then I might start to believe in the kid. As yet he's not done that much to make me think he's anything extra-special though.

He's done what was expected over the kinda guys he was expected to beat - and that is an achievement in itself, but he's done no more yet than would be expected of a potential top HW.

I'm hoping next year will be when we find out if Joshua really looks like he has talent to compete with the best HWs in the world.

Joshua is being moved along nicely. When he comes into his own, he is going to be a force. Only question I have for him is his chin as it hasn't been remotely tested yet. Maybe it doesn't have to...
