Comments Thread For: James DeGale Blows Out Periban in Three Rounds

Echo Arena, Liverpool - Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale (20-1, 14KOs) stopped usually durable Mexican contender Marco Antonio Periban (20-3-1, 13KOs) in three rounds. After controlling the first two rounds of action, DeGale landed a crushing left hand in the third and then landed another left hand to send Periban crashing down. Periban made it up, but he was out on his feet and the referee waved things off. Periban is usually very durable and it was his first stoppage defeat. He previously went the distance with Sakio Bika, J'Leon Love and Badou Jack.

Good statement by DeGale. The stoppage may have been early but Periban still should have been given a count.

DeGale proved his quality. He'll annihilate Groves in a rematch.

Howard "how do I still have a job? "Foster is an absolute disgrace of a ref. He's either incompetent or was under orders to hurry things along if he got the chance because the other fights had gone the distance and the show was running behind. Didn't even look into Periban's eyes before calling it off. I mean, wtf? Periban's never been stopped and he calls it off immediately, before even checking on the condition of the fighter? **** off.

Our refs are terrible, stopped the fight like periban had 100 losses on his record. Its no wonder americans refuse to fight in the uk. One sign of pain and the refs stop the fight

Even after losing to Groves (which I still scored for DeGale after watching it 3 times now), DeGale is BY FAR the more talented fighter and it is starting to show. DeGale is getting better while Groves is declining...INTERESTING!

Anyway, great performance by DeGale! He has the potential to be a COMPLETE FIGHTER, I liked how he applied the pressure in this fight, also not afraid to FIGHT INSIDE!

That UK stoppage was pathetic. If I were a top fighter I would seriously think twice about going over there to fight one of their guys.

Having said that this Degale character does appear to be getting better and better every time out.

how much notice was Periban given for this fight? He looked like he had been on the sofa eating chips for the past month
