I had high expectations for my first trip to New York but it turned into the day from hell. As soon as I arrived, I went to a toilet in a branch of the Subway chain restaurant and got stuck in there for half an hour because there was no handle to pull the door outwards. It was quite early in the morning so there was hardly anyone around. Half an hour later someone came to open it, but by then I had nearly sprained my ankle trying to kick the door open. So I left the toilet really irate and hungry. But I then dropped barbecued chicken wings directly onto the brand new white trainers I was wearing, which really unsettled me. I walked straight out of there but a taxi was driving past at the same moment and someone in the taxi (not on purpose) spat out the window and it went directly onto my face - I could even taste it. All of this happened just hours after I got off the plane before I even got to my hotel. It was February and absolutely freezing but no one had told me to bring a jacket to New York. I was so cold, standing on the street and tried to get a taxi for about an hour - nothing would stop.
Once I got to the hotel, I didn’t leave my room for two days. I refused to leave, thinking I was cursed.
