Comments Thread For: Donnie Nietes Stops Velarde To Retain WBO Crown

CEBU, Philippines — Hometown star Donnie Nietes retained the WBO junior flyweight title for a fifth time after beating Mexican challenger Carlos Velarde by technical knockout in the eighth round. Nietes slowly built a lead with a hometown crowd cheering him on.

The fight changed after an accidental clash of heads at the end of the seventh round opened a cut above Velarde's left eyebrow. His corner was unable to keep the cut under control, and conceded the fight late Saturday at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in the central city of Cebu.

So Francisco Rodriguez got a possible lucky decision against a nobody.

Apparently said he wants Nietes so don't think he's going back to mini , this fight was at fly.

ALA promoter said FR doesn't deserve the fight because he looked bad though. Shoot, if he did... i'm surprised they aren't jumping on it.

Nietes is back in Macau in Feb.... I still want to see him fight FR before moving up

Might not be next but what else is there for either in terms of big fights.

Let Rodriguez get another fight look better it'll be made. maybe, at least it should be.

Yea, not like he can unify either.
          He has the WBO
          IBF vacated
          WBC to be vacated
          WBA.... ehhh

FR should take one more fight to look good (plus time to heal) then try to get it... because Nietes making it sound like he's staying a little while longer
