This man would make a statement with Stevenson, do not kid yourselves about that. He respected Hopkins so he didn't go into overdrive until the 12th, that respect is earned and deserved. There would be ZEROOOOOOOO respect for Adonis and he will get pancaked. Worry about Stevenson beating Pascal cause that's about the only competitive fight Adonis is interested in.
This guy must be joking or blinded by hype.
Hopkins has ZERO offense.... yet Sergey was cautious.
You best believe Kovalev will respect Stevenson's one-punch power...if not his overrated as.s will take a nap.
He's younger than Hopkins doe...and can put you to sleep from both sides doe.
Hopkins offense is GONE.
Kovalev can't move his head doe...
Kovalev vs Hopkins was just business, it wasn't an actual fight -- I predicted a "nice friendly match" and so it was...
Now: Manny Steward was a great-great trainer... An ATG... He did a good job with Adonis -- mainly in the ring generalship department. Though I didn't see Adonis as having a KO punch other than his straight left...
I shall not do the breakdown of Kovalev's style here, because you have no idea what "the Russian school" really consists in -- as many there in the U.S.
Boone is the ONLY guy on Kovalev's record that can punch.
That's a fact.
Adonis has lots of punchers on his dance card.
Check for yourself.
Stevenson was TKO'd by a fighter we've heard of.
Sergey was put to SLEEP.....in FULL HEADGEAR by a nobody.
Sergey's two big loses in the amateurs were to Matt Korobov and Artur Beteriev. Matt happens to be a top ten ranked middleweight who is fighting for a belt early in December. Artur only has six pro fights but he handled Cloud pretty easily and knocked him cold in I believe it was the second round.
Now who was it again that knocked out Adonis? Oh that is right it was Boone. The same Boone that has a 19-21 record with a knock out percentage below 20%. He also ended a five fight losing streak when he knocked out Adonis.
Nice to see that Kovalev doesn't seem content to rest on his laurels.
Let's see how this plays out, obviously Stevenson would be the most desirable fight to make immediately (or at least after Mohammedi as Kovalevs WBA mando), but it looks like Ward is a possibility - if and when he manages to find his way out of the courtroom.
Pascal is of course the other high profile opponent who has been mentioned and I see him as being the most likely to face Kovalev in the relatively near future (due to Wards legal troubles and the Haymon / HBO problems for Stevenson), although as Stevensons mandatory, Jean may consider that as the more desirable (and winnable) fight.
