Comments Thread For: Algieri: I Have To Get in Old Lion's Face, Push The Action!

Chris Algieri (20-0, 8KOs) is planning to push the pace against WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38KOs) on November 22nd in Macau, China.

Algieri, who has the WBO title at 140-pounds, will face Pacquiao at a catch-weight of 144-pounds.

Pacquiao turns 36 next month. Algieri wants to bring the fight to the champion. Although Algieri is moving up, he is physically the much bigger man and believes a hard, tough pace will trouble the Filipino star.

Dude you're not fighting Provo or BHop.

Furthermore how do you get in "the old lion's" face and push the action when you're backpedaling??

This is an interesting style match-up. Algeri is so much taller and longer than Pac. And he's shown the ability to stay on his bicycle, pumping that jab for 12rds. Unless Pac blows him out. This fight is probably gonna fall into a pattern of Manny chasing Chris, which is gonna be extremely frustrating for Manny. Wish it wasn't PPV.

You're making the typical mistake of basing your analysis on physical attributes alone... Algieri gets hit way too much and easily to be hard to find...

I don't think I ever said he was gonna win. I said his style could be frustrating to Manny. You're making the typical mistake of not acknowledging that is a helluva lot deeper into his decline than his fans wanna accept. And the biggest thing is that Manny's legs are getting a lil heavy. And Manny is gonna have to stay disciplined and focused on cutting off the ring, and not fall into a pattern of following Algeri around the ring, lunging trying to land big shots.

BTW, I've never seen Algeri hit a lot, or easily. Just because you're not Floyd or Rigo doesn't make you a bad defensive fighter. If Algeri were easy to hit, he doesn't see the second half of the fight against Provo.
