30 For 30 No Mas. Why We Love Boxing....

****ing great post. The continuing misrepresentation of what happened in those two fights sickens me. The notion that Leonard was 'suckered' into 'brawling' with the 'crude' Duran is so utterly false it makes most of these shows completely unwatchable for me.
The American media wanted an excuse for why their golden boy got beaten up and of course Dundee and Ray were only too happy to give it to them. Never mind the fact that in the entire lead-up to the fight both Leonard and Angelo talked about Ray being the puncher in the fight and that they were going to bully Duran.
Leonard didn't get drawn into 'fighting Duran's fight'. He fought the fight he wanted, and he got beaten.
But of course, it all worked out ok in the rematch. Where he dominated and humiliated Duran so badly that he was a whole point up on one of the cards and two points up on the others when it ended.
Amazing events, and the first fight is one of the best in history. But the mainstream accounts of it are so full of lies it's best to ignore them.Comment

This 30 for 30 became annoying at the end when it went full on pro-Leonard and started telling this word narrative where Duran robbed Leonard of something and owed him. It was excellent before that.Comment

Well said totally agree! Leonard never dominated Duran in the rematch it was only in round seven that Ray really started his showboating tactics. Their was only a round or two in it with many rounds to go before Duran quit. The continuing misrepresentation of what happened in those two fights sickens me. The notion that Leonard was 'suckered' into 'brawling' with the 'crude' Duran is so utterly false it makes most of these shows completely unwatchable for me.

Great documentary, I love Tyson's commentary, he was a huge Duran fanboy and had no problem displaying it!Comment

That whole thing was bull****. Leonard got beat up he wasnt suckered into ****. Duran whooped his ass.
I love Ray Leonard but he is the fakest fighter to ever live. Duran was in reality not the villain.
Duran is much higher up on the ATG list then Leonard.Comment

Ray didn't need all the clowning antics I agree with that. I can understand that Leonard didn't want another war like the first fight and needed to box on the back foot a bit more but yeah the way he fought was disrespectful to Duran. I think Leonard really feared Duran and needed to get in to his head, and we saw that with Leonard's pre fight behavior too.Comment

I'm ok with him realizing that u can't just go toe to toe wirh everyone you fight but all the clowning around was ******. I remember hearing about him making Duran quit and was like wow, Ray was the man. Then when I saw both fights, I was like wtf??? Lol first fight was great, the second one was lame IMO.Ray didn't need all the clowning antics I agree with that.
