Comments Thread For: Provodnikov: I Never Thought One Day I'd Face Castillo

Back in 2007, "Siberian Rocky" Ruslan Provodnikov (23-3, 16KOs) had his second ring appearance in the United States. Provodnikov, then a 3-0 prospect, appeared on the Ricky Hatton vs. Jose Luis Castillo undercard at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Even at that time, Castillo was already on the downslide of his pro career. Now 40-years-old, Castillo (66-12-1, 57KOs) is not the same fighter who tested the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Joel Casamayor and Diego Corrales.

It's like i'm in the Twilight Zone. We are preparing for a heavy contender, give me a break. Provodnikov isn't even attempting to save face by saying something like, i'm disappointed in this fight. In the very least.

The guy is praising Castillo and acting like this is some big fight against a Glen Johnson type of veteran.

Come on Ruslan, I like you, you're exciting but treat it like it is and be honest with your fans. This is a showcase fight. Get it done with and move on.

None of us did. I hope Castillo pulls some BS and quits in the first.

Should be a good fight contrary to popular opinion. Castillo is going to bring it. I expect a Morales-Maidana type of fight.

What an honor it must be, the only thing that could possibly top this is to dig castillos skeleton up and fight his bones.
