Comments Thread For: Kovalev: I’m Comfortable at 175, Not Finished Here Yet

Shortly after Sergey Kovalev shut out Bernard Hopkins, he was asked about the possibility of dropping down in weight from 175 to face other opponents, including Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

“I’m feeling very comfortable in my division. Why I need to change something if I have success in my division?” Kovalev responded during the post-fight press conference.

His promoter, Kathy Duva of Main Events, concurred: “We can’t cut off his [Kovalev’s] arms, so Chavez is going to have to come up,” she said. [Click Here To Read More]

If I see the name Chavez Jr. mentioned for a fight against boxing's elite again, I'm gonna puke.

lol. why would he need to go anywhere? the man is in his prime at the height of his powers, and he's got andre ward a division below him, gloveking a division below that. the only thing he's got to do is stay busy defending all of those belts all the while looking to unify with stevenson so that he is the legit undisputed lhw champ if andre decides to move up. the fight rights it's self. kovo's in a pretty good spot right now.

Abel said after the Bhop fight that he would welcome a fight with Kovalev.

It's weird that people are asking him to move.

Nobody pays attention to cruiserweights (even though they should) and 168, while stacked a few years ago, is now a division of over-the-hill/on hiatus fighters.

Chavez Jr, I get it he's a legend's son, but he doesn't even belong in the ring with Kovalev. People would be yelling at their TVs for the ref to stop it 3 rounds in.

Meanwhile he is in a division with a few big fights he hasn't signed yet and several elite amateurs turned pros. He should stay at 175 and reign.

Kovalev was trained by Sanchez, sparred GGG and respects the **** out of him. Says GGG hits like a sledgehammer.

Sanchez also asked Ward to stop negotiating over social media, and call GGGs promoter or make an offer. Wards trainer then said, Ward had nothing to do with any letter to HBO, and he'd like him to have a couple of tuneups before GGG.

Bottom line, if Ward is serious, make an offer like an A-sider he claims to be

Are you implying that Ward was NOT serious? Are you trying to put "sand over the ****" and cover up the fact that team GGG said they weren't going to fight Ward????

Amazing how GGG finds it easy to get fights with no-hopers, but cannot seem to get on the phone himself against anyone elite. He won't hold up to Kovalev's punches and outside range fight-no way.GGG won't fight anyone elite and will hide in his p1ss-weak division, even though he can fight at SMW easily.
