  • Comments Thread For: Bob Arum: WBO Decision To Strip Chris Algieri On Hold

It’s been a banner year for Chris Algieri, regardless of the outcome of his next fight. The fact that he landed a seven-figure payday in his November 22 showdown with Manny Pacquiao only speaks volumes to the 2014 campaign he’s enjoyed to this point.

A year that began with a sound points win over Emmaneul Taylor became a Cinderella story with his major upset win in a debatable split decision over Ruslan Provodnikov in June. Both bouts took place in his home state of New York, though he’ll have to travel to the other side of the world for the welterweight title fight with Pacquioa, which headlines on HBO Pay-Per-View live from Macau, China.

While its great seeing Rob Arscum having to pay ransom to these sanctioning cartels.....its bittersweet because you know in the end Pac pays for it all one way or the other.

Algieri needn't worry about belts after the 22nd!

Damn, I was hoping Broner would get that belt. Oh well. Broner will just have to fight Algieri for it. Algieri isn't a part of Top Rank so it shouldn't be that hard of a fight to make.

Lol yep ole Bob still paying them off no doubt about it. How he's allowed in boxing after all he's done without getting the same criticism as Haymon baffles me. How many Interim or made up titles have they got for Pacquiao. Like the fighter of the decade belt.

Who gives a sht about the WBO really? Last time i checked the poweful sanctioning bodies such as the WBC, WBA and IBF did not include the WBO in their latest reunion.

Broner? OK, from recent outings, Broner moves his feet well, but appears flatfooted, he's no dancer. Chris may have too much stamina, but I don't like that style. Broner would have a hard time finding Chris, he may not be able to cut off the ring. Both of them look best when they get more pressure than they apply. Broner is a good counter puncher and Algieri has to be caught. 50-50 in an ugly fight. A lot of moving, a little mauling, some name calling, and a clean punch here and there.

I hope they don't. He is going up for one fight he never said he was staying at 147.

The kid won a fight no one expected him to and now they want to strip lol homie. Let him have the belt he will be right back to defend it anyway.

Good, Algieri deserves the right to defend that belt after the Pacquiao fight should he lose.
