Is Kovalev p4p no. 1?

No, Kovalev isn't because the whole idea of P4P is that the guy, based on skills, natural attributes, heart, toughness and resume can be regarded as someone who is likely to beat 99% of foes, irregardless of weight. Kovalev is not that guy.
Personally I think P4P lists are redundant at this stage with so many top names refusing to fight each other but if I made one, I'd have him somewhere on the bottom half of a top 10.Comment

Bernard was fighting D level foes. Look what happened when he faced someone legit, couldn'teven win a single round. So, NO, Kovalev doesn't even crack top 10 yet. A win over Stevenson would.Comment

Somewhere along the line, PFP lists went from being what you say to purely a comparison of records. No, Kovalev isn't because the whole idea of P4P is that the guy, based on skills, natural attributes, heart, toughness and resume can be regarded as someone who is likely to beat 99% of foes, irregardless of weight. I'd take a welterweight Kovalev to beat the current PFP #1, a SMW Kovalev to beat the #2 right now too. The guy's power is outrageous, and you'd assume that hypothetically that would be taken to whatever division he fought in. In saying that, if HWs are considered in PFP lists, I'd pick Wlad to keep him on the end of a jab and maybe stop him.
It's kind of complicated to put a PFP list together like that, so PFP today is really a comparison of resumes for the most part.Last edited by Weebler I; 11-11-2014, 12:42 PM.Comment

Kovalev should be near the top of any pfp. list and so should GGG but pfp lists are just opinions and there is no way to prove those opinions right or wrong. Mayweather is still an excellent fighter but pfp I like the two Russian monsters better. Mayweather had a hard fight with Maidana while Kovalev and GGG beat the best fighters in their weight class with ease.Comment

if they were the same size you would pick wlad to win? wouldn't wlad's glass chin be instantly shattered? wlad's not exactly a great mover. he's a great clincher but we saw kovalev beat up hopkins on the inside. kovalev is just better than that fool. he's fighting pulev that's like kovalev fighting gatti.Somewhere along the line, PFP lists went from being what you say to purely a comparison of records.
