Comments Thread For: Photos: Klitschko-Pulev Final Presser Gets Controversial

At the Grand Elysee Hotel in Hamburg, Germany, a final press conference was held for Saturday's showdown between WBA/IBF/IBO/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (62-3, 53 KOs) and undefeated mandatory IBF challenger Kubrat Pulev (20-0, 11 KOs). The fight will be carried live by HBO and takes place at the O2 World arena in Hamburg, Germany.

Pulev and his team were not present at the conference. According to Sauerland Event, who promote Pulev, the Bulgarian's team were denied entrance to the press conference.

Odd behavior by Wlad (or whoever decides these things, but surely Wlad is the final voice). Is he intimidated?

EDIT: nevermind, it looks like Wlad himself only has a couple team members on the podium with him in a small room, maybe Pulev is playing games and wanted to make it a circus.

I think there's a genuine dislike between the fighters. Pulev has been critical of Klitschko for making his wait for so long to get his title shot, especially since he earned the #1 ranking in 2013. I'm hoping some of this animosity transfers into the ring on Sat.

He is one of the better HWs out there but he doesn't have a truly standout win. However, he has outclassed good fighters in a similar fashion to Wladimir by being lightfooted and quick for his size and making his opponents look plodding/confused.

The problem here is that I think everything Pulev is good at, Wlad is better at. They both like to pick their opponents apart with long punches but Wlad is one of the hardest hitting HWs of all time and Pulev has a tendency to just tap for points.

We can however say that Wlad hasn't faced this type of fighter. He has a big bear-like physique similar to Corrie Sanders but instead of being a natural brawler he's a patient boxer.

After the Povetkin fiasco, Wladimir needs to make a statement. Unless he suddenly aged, he'll probably completely dominate and stop Pulev
