Comments Thread For: De La Hoya Doesn’t Think Bernard Hopkins Will Retire

While Bernard Hopkins said he doesn’t yet know what he’ll do with his career — it had been barely an hour since he’d lost to Sergey Kovalev — Hopkins’ promotional colleague, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, believes the nearly 50-year-old legend isn’t done yet.

“I don’t know what he’ll do,” De La Hoya said at the post-fight press conference. “But one thing for sure I know is he’s not going to retire.”

Hop said he felt too small against Kovalev at 175.

Drop to 168 and fight Ward.

Of the titlists I think he has a chance against Stevenson and Abraham, Froch and Dirrell.

I wouldn't be entirely shocked if they made Canelo-Hopkins if he was willing to go down for Floyd...

Fight GGG to see if BHop gets KOd. No money in any other fight. BHop is the kind of guy who needs a monster in front of him to be watchable. And if GGG KOs BHop that's a good start for a showdown between the two Euro fighters in a year's time.

Ward and Hopkins have an agreement not to fight just like Ward and Dirrell did.

Hopkins should retire. Maybe take one more fight for an opportunistic belt that vacates (what if Ward is stripped soon and Hopkins can still make 168 but I seriously doubt he can?) to go out on a high note, but there's no need to see him end up like Roy Jones.

There day of fight weight wasn't that different. B-Hop 182lbs and Kovalev 188lbs. Idk at this age if B-Hop can go down.

It sounds like Oscar bought into the B-Hop hype, judging from that last quote.

I don't think B-Hop will retire. He hasn't absorbed much punishment over his career, so I doubt he'll fall apart if he fights one more time. I doubt he'll be competitive with Adonis, but he probably won't get hit too much either because of his defense.

Just don't fight more than once, and avoid any more punchers. Otherwise I'll be scared just to watch it, I was in fear for him during some moments of the Kovalev fight especially the last round.

My thoughts exactly. Hop is too old to be trying to cut weight, he already walks near his fight weight so him losing anymore weight could be detrimental to his health.

Oscar doesn't want him to retire because he is one of Oscars 2 money makers. I thought Hop would've won the fight, but seeing him lose the way he did, gives me the feeling he won't be #1 in that division ever. If Hop can't be #1 there is no point of him keeping on. His money is good, his legacy is untouchable, Like ****m said one time referring to Pacs KO "don't do it all", so far Hop has done everything except that and I don't what him to do it all either.

Ward-Hopkins?? Make it happen! I've been having trouble falling asleep. This fight is the perfect prescription to my insomnia.
