The referee looked to be protecting Sturm whenever Stieglitz got in close.

I noticed this. He got Sturm off the ropes a few times too by pushing Stieglitz back across the ring a couple times.

Liked Stieglitz's work in the second half but I have no problem with a draw. It was that close!
