Comments Thread For: Naazim: Don't Defang Kovalev After Hopkins Beats Him!

Trainer Naazim Richardson has a lot of respect for WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1, 23KOs). The Russian puncher has been pushed as a future star, a destroyer with a murderous punch.

On Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Naazim's fighter Bernard Hopkins will stake his WBA/IBF light heavyweight belts in a major unification with Kovalev.

Naazim wants no excuses, or the public calling Kovalev 'overhyped' when the 49-year-old Hopkins pulls yet another rabbit out of his hat.

Sugar Kovalev gonna out class Bhop.

Look for Bhop to headbutt and and hold and foul like he never has before, I wont be surprised if he bodyslams himself or launches himself out the ring to avoid being embarrassed by Sugar Kovalev.

I certainly won't. Kovalev has proven himself against a good enough class of competition that Hopkins winning this fight would impress me.

It goes both ways of course. I sure as hell won't be dismissing Kovalev if he loses - I'd still consider him the next best guy in the division, and whilst he hasn't faced anyone elite (like, smh, Dawson or Cloud ), the guys he has beaten still represent some decent talent in LHW terms. Certainly Hopkins deserves full credit if he can find a way to the win.

If Kovalev wins though, he'll have beaten a legitimate unified LHW champ, however old Hopkins might be and will also deserve full credit for the achievement.
