    When Boxers Should Have Retired

So basically, I'm asking when you think boxers should have retired, for example, imo I believe Ali should have retired in 1974 after the Foreman win.

So you guys can pick any fighter from any era and explain why you think that guy should have retired at some stage.

I would want Roy Jones Jr. to retire in 2003 after beating Tarver. He would be 49-1 having avenged his only loss by brutal 1 round KO. Some would say he ducked a rematch with Tarver but he was clearly not the same Roy and he would still be appreciated for what he did in his career.

couldn't agree more, even retiring after the 3rd Tarver fight would make sense, the narrative would have read as RJJ, not quite being at his best and a faded fighter, giving the best LHW on the planet a tough night.

I think Morales should have retired post-Pac/Morales II/

Hatton put on one of his best ever performances after that fight against Malignaggi though

Don't agree with that one, he should have retired after Golota, after that fight he was embarrassed by Lewis, Williams and McBride.

            Agree with the rest

Which led to him getting iced by Pacquiao? I stand by my answer.

Edit...Which my reasoning is exactly like your answer for Tyson.

The Lewis fight was historic and important for boxing, plus Tyson needed that record 20 million purse.

Fair enough but Hatton could have retired as a champ and with dignity, that Pacquiao loss still haunts him to this day...the same way as it haunted him into a fight with Senchenko

lol he didn't need the walloping though or the disgrace and shambolic failure that followed

Tyson's antics pre-fight were far more damaging to him than the actual fight though. It was a hit to his legacy at that time but as more time passed people just look at it as a completely shot Tyson that lewis hardly gets much credit for. So in the end I think he really needed that fight.
