Virgil Hunter is a very good trainer. He is a teacher and not just another guy with a towel and bucket yelling instructions in the corner. Sadly he is sill mostly viewed as one fighter trainer and Mares' defection doesn't help that. However, I have a feeling things will start to look otherwise after December 13th.

Good luck to Mares. A true champion and a solid warrior. Losing to Jhonney Gonzalez was no shame who himself is a strong champion. He will be back.

I can understand it, northern cali is way different then southern cali and plus he aint know nobody up their so was probably boring as fuck for him and away from his family. Plus I think after the first fight he realized that style virgil was trying to mold him into was not right for him.

        Virgil's a .....

Virgil's a one trick pony just like the overrated Mayweather Sr. take away Sr's son and Andre Ward and you'd never know who these guys were. How ironic that both Mares and Angulo were trained by the same guy, Clemente Medina and both went back to him. Now, let's see how much damage hunter has done.

I remember watching the Canelo vs Angulo All Access and hearing him say something akin to "a good trainer adapts to the style of the fighter, because that's who he is". Pretty obvious that the guy actually can't do that, Mares looked terrible in his last fight (seriously the highlight of his fight was when he spoke about Mexico's world cup loss), Angulo as well, and Khan looked ok but he clinched a lot. He really can't seem to work with aggressive fighters, believes too much in clinching.

Nah, Hunter aint a one trick poney.

Andre Ward has easily been the most complete fighter on the planet. Andre Ward is a fantastic athlete but not a freak at all, but that doesn't matter because he is incredibly smart in the ring. He uses space more intelligently than anyone because he can fight on the inside too.

Most pure boxers ply their trade from the outside, but Andres ability to beat anybody on the inside allows him to play with much more room, allows him to out-think the other guy more easily.

The two most disciplined fighters other than Ward are Floyd and Rigo, and Ward is can fight on the inside, they can't, and Ward is still koing people, Floyd and Rigo aren't. And the undeniable thing is, he wins through his technique, not through his athleticism, it's the kinda technique you need someone to help teach you, which Andre has always admitted. Hunter knows what he is doing.

lol all these people point at ward and say hunter is a great trainer, guess what ward is one of those fighters where he would be great no matter who trained him.

so who else has hunter trained lol, FACT everyone has took their worse beating under hunter tutelage

That's what it was! The home sick stuff wasn't the real problem IMO. Hunters style is horrible. Hope Khan would leave him too.

Hunter is a garbage trainer. Angulo and Mares looked WORSE when they were trained by him.
