I think the size of wrists/ hands provides durability, not power. Strong wrists and fists probably get injured less and can give fighters longer careers if they take care of themselves.
Is there a link between hand size and punching power?

I have this skinny ass relative who can punch like a monster. I could see he had tremendous leverage but wow could he punch. I've felt huge power before, the kind that makes your toes tingle like they separate from your body. I never took a shot to the head from him but did put mitts on a couple times and let him go to the body with the padding. It didn't feel heavy but more like an explosion.
Felt like this would happen without padding
He didnt even compete(boxing) like we did just did it for fitness and hobby.. he was actually a pitcher who had a mean fastball. I wonder if thats related...Comment

PAC is closer to the Picture Mike Tyson, Joe Fraizer were small heavyweights I bet they hit harder than all these 250 pound blobs we have today. Take a look at a 7 foot basket ball Player with huge hands I bet a middleweight named GGG hits harderComment

Well take the case of for example ballistics.
.45 APC @ 230 Grain 850fps = ~365ftlb of energy
.45 APC @ 230 Grain 950fps = ~460ftlb of energy
Now take a .40S&W or .40 Cal
.40S&W @ 135 Grain 1350fps = ~565ftb of energy
So, in this case the smaller/faster and close to 50% lighter bullet carries much more energy than even the fastest/heaviest of .45 APC.
Its all about technique, speed of the punch and and following thru or punching thru the target.
And to close, like someone else mentioned earlier...you got to use your legs and torso...ie: Technique
why do heavyweights punch harder than featherweights?Comment

some of the responses are ridiculous.
"i sparred once, and this guy who was smaller than me beat me up. guys with smaller hands hit harder."

I was around in the early days of MMA and we had hoped that would disprove the magical kung fu Bruce Lee **** most people imagined martial arts to be because of movies...
Nope. In fact now it's going around the Bruce Lee "invented" MMA (something that's been around since ancient Greece). I give up. Some people just think movies are real no matter what.Comment

I remember in the movie "Raging Bull", about Jake Lamotta, Robert De Niro was complaining to his buddy Joe Pesci about how he has small girly hands, and Pesci was like "so what, i do too",etc....
Not sure if this scene was based on a real life account, but i heard Lamotta could pack a punch....
Without thinking too scientifically though, something about common sense tells me a bigger fist would still hurt more due to having more of a "club" like nature, than a small hammer for example...Comment
