Might do a million with a good undercard, something special like Garcia / Matthysse.
Interesting to see what Mayweather does if they hold the fight in May. Mayweather will be forced to come up with a good opponent to compete for the PPV audience, situation might turn out great for boxing fans.Comment

Cotto will be getting a guaranteed $7 million for the fight, whereas Martinez will get $1.5 million plus more money from the percentage of PPV upside, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.Cotto didn't get $10 million for his fight with Martinez. He got much lower than that. Cotto's purse was $3 million, with an upside of up to $7 million pending on how well the PPV performed.
It won't do 1 million buys. The days of the 1 million plus PPV's are probably over unless Pacquaio and Floyd fight each other. A lot of people here are very gullible if they believe Cotto is really going to get $20 million versus Canelo.Comment

If he can get it good for him, that does kind of show some more difficulties in making this fights both sides want to get paid. There should be a lot of money in that encounter but I don't know if it is quite that much.Comment

It stands to reason that Margarito and Canelo fans most likely overlap considerably
It also stands to reason that Canelo did not keep/retain/attract fans during the Mayweather fight with his sub-par performance, and this is just thinking outloud based the Lara PPV totals
Cotto/Margarito II generated like 600K in sales, but dropped nearly 50% for the Martinez fight. Some of that is macro level - these PPVs are seriously expensive with crappy undercards. Some of it is on the micro levels - I know personally alot of my boxing buddies thought that the Margarito fight was the last top end Cotto performance, which followed up with another good showing against Floyd. These were followed up with a letdown against Trout, having most thinking he's finally fully washed up and thinking Martinez would wreck him. To turn around and surprise most people might generate interest in his next PPV, but I don't think much. I think most will say that they missed the last Cotto great performance and it's all down hill from there
So with Cotto towing the line between past-prime and washed up and Canelo's diminished star power - I think 600K with aggressive promotion is the best that fight can generate. It's just too expensive, that ish will be 75 dollars w/ a crappy undercard.Comment
