  • Comments Thread For: Maidana Says Khan, Broner Take Backseat To Pacquiao

As reported a few days ago on BoxingScene.com, former world champion Marcos Maidana (35-5, 31KOs) is very interested in facing WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao in 2015. Maidana is coming off back to back pay-per-view fights with Floyd Mayweather Jr., the WBC/WBA champion at 147-pounds.

Maidana lost a close twelve round majority decision in May and then lost a spirited twelve round unanimous decision in September. Pacquiao is going to defend his WBO world welterweight title on November 22nd against undefeated Chris Algieri in Macau, China.

Ehh boring fight. Nobody wants to see Pacquiao beat another Floyd opponent worse than Floyd did.

Maidana should retire or possibly face Bradley, that'd be interesting.

To me personally a Broner/Maidana rematch is as enticing as any fight there is out there.

It would answer some questions. Was Broner just overlooking Maidana that night? Or would Maidana wreck him again in a rematch? And I think Maidana almost owes him a rematch...because lets be honest, the Broner beating was the fight that pushed Maidana over the top and got him 2 (TWO!!!) PPV fights with Floyd. Hell I would f**king gladly pay full price PPV for a Maidana/Broner rematch. Dead serious. And they could throw in a few All-Access episodes while they're at it. The build up would be terrific.

he really seems to be avoiding any thought of a broner rematch. I wonder why it be a huge fight and if hes confident hell win whats the difference

I got a couple of theories. One would be that he wants to savor that **** forever and not give Broner a chance to redeem himself. All that **** talk and clowning on Maidana prior to the fight...only to get urinated on. It's one of Maidana's best memories as a fighter. Kinda like with Marquez's KO over Pac. I think JMM even admitted as much -- how he'd rather not give Pac a chance to redeem himself than give in to the $$$.

My other theory would be it's just about the money at this point for Maidana. He got a taste of that PPV money and now he wants the biggest names only. He's already mentioned Pacquiao AND Cotto in like literally the past 2 weeks.

Maidana after those well deserved money fights.

Khan and Broner take a backseat.
