Calzaghe Wants Roy Jones on 7/8

Since dominating undefeated Jeff Lacy in their super middleweight unification bout last Saturday, Calzaghe has become a superstar on both sides of the ocean. While Calzaghe gets geared up to lead the Wales rugby team out against Italy this weekend, his promoter Frank Warren is making moves to secure a bout against light heavyweight Roy Jones Jr., to take place on July 8. Joe and FRank are waisitng there time if they think Roy is coming over to Wales to fight.

Besides if they really want Tarver they need to set it up by brutalizing Roy Jones in the states.

Why waste time with Jones. Calzaghe doesnt need to fight a guy who is obviously washed up and has no chance of beating him. Get Tarver or Glencoffe in the ring.

I agree its a waste of time. Better for Calzaghe to fight Johnston and then the winner of Tarver / Hopkins. Johnston doesn`t mind travelling ( he fought Clinton Woods in the UK twice ) and he is a name with some respect. Roy Jones is a name from the past. Roy is an idiot if he believes he can contend with Joe at this stage of his career!

I think Clinton Woods is a more appealing fight than Glen Johnson, at least you can spin it as battle of Britain kind of thing.

The more I think about it the more a Jones vs. Calzaghe fight makes sense...

Joe would get even further exposure (which he still needs btw) and it would really set the table for Tarver vs. Calzaghe.

They should try to get Johnson, instead of Jones. Johnson will go to Wales. Then if Joe can beat Johnson, then he can look at getting Tarver over there for mega-fight later in the fall. Tarver will go to Wales, if the money is right. Tarver is all about the Benjamins.

I'd forget Roy, if I were Joe. There is nothing to gain from beating him now, and I think Roy may get up for a fight like that and bring out his old stuff. Roy is all wrong for them...not to mention he will never leave the US. Focus on Tarver and Johnson, I say.

i really see jones eyeing up a flashy win over a fighter who is
suddenly being talked about in america as one of the p4p best.
im not sold on jones jr's ability to avoid a fighter with joes
workrate or to blast him out in a dominating fashion so its a
very risky fight for jones with a large reward. but i dont see
much to gain for joe calzaghe, jones has already lost to a rough
pressure fighter in glengoffe johnson & joe definately has more
skill than johnson, with proven chin, stamina & workrate. only
joes power is unproven against fighters ranging from light hw to hw.

                  calzaghe ud

This is a no win situation for Calzaghe. If he wins he beat a washed up Jones who lost to Glen Johnson. And if he loses than his star will sky rocket down.
I think he should fight Kessler than Tarver.
