  • Comments Thread For: Saunders-Eubank To Be WBO World Title Eliminator

BoxingScene can confirm that the WBO have ratified Billy Joe Saunders, 20-0 (11), versus Chris Eubank Junior, 18-0 (13), as a final eliminator for the winner of Matt Kobolov and Andy Lee, who are set to contest the vacant middleweight WBO title on December 13.

Saunders is putting his British and EBU 160lb titles on the line at London's Excel Arena on November 29th, and the winner will be lined up for a world title shot in 2015.

Eubank Jr is on record as saying, if he wins, that he wants to defend the British title a few times to claim the Lonsdale belt. So, unless he puts on an absolute masterclass and feels ready body and soul for the WBO fight after dispatching BJS, I doubt he'll take that route.

Who's everyone picking for this fight anyway? I got Eubank by mid-round stoppage. His athleticism, unorthodox style, speed and power will be too much for Billy Joe, IMO

Saunders wide decision. Eubank Jr will get buried in activity.

That's cool... the guy who should've been #1 is going to be in an eliminator against a guy who wasn't in the rankings before, but sure as hell probably will be now.... because....fuck it

Interesting, I was wondering if this would be a definite eliminator, but know I wonder if Korobov/Lee will have to defend right away or if they'll be able to make a voluntary - say Golovkin in May.

Personally I would prefer to see Korobov/Lee defend against Saunders (agree that Eubank will probably pass up the opportunity to contest for the title right away) before a Golovkin fight. Macklin already has his eye on the winner of Korobov/Lee as well. That said, I'm going with Eubanks over Saunders, not much to base it on really. I like what I see from Chris in his soft-touch fights, where I feel Saunders who's been tested pretty well has shown a ceiling. I can see Eubanks moving in and out landing a quick hard shot and leaving Saunders swinging in the air. We'll see...

No sense getting mad about that. Look at some of the guys they've had hanging in their top 15 for almost a year now:

                  Lajos Mark Nagy
                  Hamid Rahimi
                  Artur Akavov

The important thing is that atleast the four guys potentially fighting for the title are of quality.

I favour BJS, but I have no idea how good Eubank really is. We will find out November 29th, I hope..
