You're thinking of the traditional tv deal where NBC/ESPN would buy fights from the promoter and then earn revenue selling commercial time - then yeah they'll put a promoter on the spot to deliver good fights. It's on Haymon to sell commercial time in this case. Thing is he might not be worried about selling it at all. In fact there might not be any commercials during his boxing shows on NBC. From the looks of things, Al will use the NBC shows as a platform to showcase fighters and then use that to sell his ppv shows. You'll see big names like Peter Quillin & Danny Jacobs fighting showcase fights, then later on pay to see them fight one another.
Everyone talks about the Cold War being over, it's so far from the truth. GB was/is a small section of Haymon, them leaving only means Canelo's gone from Haymon. You likely won't see Haymon fighters fighting other high profile fighters anymore. It'll be like UFC/Bellator, two sepearte leagues - Haymon/Non-Haymon.
One reason I think Haymon's plan implodes in about 3-5 years is because now he'll be responsible for ratings (whether it's ppv or the online model). He's made his success in the past simply by controlling content. Like he's doing with Showtime right now, he sells them certain fights and lets them worry about the viewer numbers. Now he'll be on both ends of the business. He puts up the fights and will have to worry about his buyrates. How will his product sale though if he's not working with all the fighters in the sport? He's going to struggle selling someone as a star MW champion when that person can't even fight the actual champion. In the interim of those 3-5 years, we're going to miss out on alot of great fights.
