Boxing has its critics – and I've taken a few whacks on the chin defending what I still believe is the Noble Art – but I can assure you of one thing: It isn't bent.

And not a lot of sports can say that these days.

At a conference in London recently which debated match fixing and other threats to the security of sport it was alleged by one of the world's leading administrators that across the globe football is just one of a number of sports that have become infiltrated by criminal gangs. David Howman director-general of the World Anti-Doping Agency told some 200 delegates that "organised crime now controls 25 per cent of world sport in one way or another."

How about when they rang the bell 50-odd seconds early when Enzo Mac was badly hurt in his fight with Mr Blobby? That sure looked crooked to me. You promoted that one, Frank.

Some or all of what Warren's article says about corruption in other sports may be true but it doesn't mean other forms of corruption don't exist in boxing. Just because the mob/organized crime or whatever you want to call it may not be associated with or in control of boxing like it once was, it doesn't mean there aren't other parties and/or individuals involved in corrupting the sport. There has been a lot of questionable behavior from referees and judges in more recent fights. These occurrences can have the effect of leading a lot of boxing viewers to believe that pro boxing isn't always straight down the middle. Incompetence cannot attest for every ridiculously lopsided scorecard or bad refereeing. Lately, it really depends on where the fight is taking place. The UK is actually one of the fairest venues for a pro fight. Germany is getting a reputation for poor judging. You need look no further back than the Paul Smith/Arthur Abraham title fight. One of the scorecards was beyond comprehension but that's Germany. I can't say I was that surprised.
Frank Warren is a boxing promoter and thinks he can draw more fans by attempting to prove that no corruption exists in boxing...
