To the surprise of everyone at the offices of the World Boxing Council (WBC) in Mexico City, former four division world champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales rejected the idea of a final farewell fight.

Morales was scheduled to fight earlier this year against Jorge Paez Jr. but withdrew with a hand injury. In a twist of fate, Morales is now helping train Paez. Morales would later announce his retirement, because his hand injury was going to take longer than expected to fully heal. Morales' last fight took place in 2012, when he was knocked out by Danny Garcia.
