Benavidez Jr fans... Is he ready?

SoI watched him a bit at the start of his career and thought he looked good, but havent seen him fight in ages.

I was surprised when they announced the Herrera fight. He's arguably the champ at 140 and is not far removed from one of his best performances against Garcia. He's a tough fight for anyone in the world let alone a guy who i thought was still at the prospect stage...

So my question to you guys who have been watching Benavidez' career, is he ready for this fight? Has he been stepping up to prepare for a fighter of Herrera's quality?

Very brave from his camp, and i think the fight will serve him well win or lose

I haven't seen much of the kid but judging from his BoxRec this is a huge step up for him, maybe too much too soon? After all, Herrera is the uncrowned King at 140.

Thats what it looks like to me. But thats just from boxrec stalking him. Theres lots of losses on the guys he fought, but that might not mean much if they were good proven guys.

Really? If he isnt ready now I wouldnt write him off just yet.

Has he been progressing up to this fight though or is it out of no where?

It's definitely a big leap compared to the opposition he was fighting before. Benavidez is a huge light-welter though and if he can keep Herrera on the end of his jab and move, he can pull out a win.

It's an impressive step-up but at the age of 22, he can afford to make it and lose. It'll be invaluable experience.

            I'm backing Herrera.

Win or lose (probably lose) it is an invaluable experience for Benavidez, he's going to learn a lot from this fight. Herrera's not a big puncher either so it's not like he's going to be damaged after this fight.

I feel like hes ready.its time to throw him into deep waters and see if he can sink or swim. A loss wouldn't be a huge deal because he lost to a skilled fighter. But a win would be because of the hype around herrera right now. I like Jose but unfortunately his chin is questionable.hes very talented but a heavy handed fighter can n take him out

Good luck to him im looking forward to this match up. Cant wait for benavidez vs gomez in the future

He is ready for boxers, but guys with power are what im unsure about.

hopefully he maintains, and i think he can win this herrera fight. Its a shame really, because one of these guys has to lose instead of each fighting others.
